Dr. Stefan Donth

Dr. Stefan Donth is a historian, who researches the history of communism and other violent pasts of the 20th and 21st centuries.

Following his dissertation, a study on the policies of the Soviet military administration and the SED in Saxony regarding the integration of refugees and displaced persons from 1945 to 1952, he has published extensively on the establishment of the communist dictatorship after the end of World War II and on repression in the GDR. His professional career includes academic work in historical education and at a memorial site. 

He works closely with victims of political persecution to address human rights violations. The inclusion of these eyewitnesses in the culture of commemoration and remembrance is a particular concern of his. He is personally involved in the “After the Dictatorship” project.
